upgrading + refining || personal

Its been quiet on the blog here this week...but that's because I've been playing with this:
I got a Canon 5d mark ii....and it arrived on Monday. its pretty eeepic.

I decided that I would name her (yeah I decided it was a 'she' too) Olive...for three reasons:
I love olives.
love the name Olive.
and since my camera is black like an olive it kind of makes sense.

I knew I wanted to upgrade from my Canon Rebel at some point this year, and now was a good time to do that.
As the photographer, we are definetly the one that creates the picture, but it helps to have good tools at your fingertips to really take your work to the next level.

I have been shooting in manual on my other camera for a while, so its been a really easy transition to this camera...here's the first picture I took on it... (of olives, obviously)
look at that color! these are SOOC, not edited at all.

I LOVE the fierce orange pop in this:
my camera journey started out with this lovely point + shoot several years ago:
then I purchased this (Canon Rebel T1i in Dec. of 2010)
I have loved this camera soso much. It has served me so well + I don't think I"ll ever be able to part with it.
 and now this:
me + my olive girl. we make quite the dynamic duo.
Its funny, because I feel like I've gone through 3 levels not only with cameras but with graphic design programs as well...I started out making things in good old Microsoft Word..and learned just by clicking on things (<-- best education right there people) :P ...and then moved onto creating things in Microsoft Publisher, and then moved onto the land of Photoshop...which I love. But the foundations for me with photography and graphic design had to start somewhere. I just started shooting...starting playing around in programs...read tons of stuff online...and googled and googled to find the answers I was looking for.
so whatever camera/editing software/design program you have, don't be afraid to create.
push yourself.
shoot things as good as you can with the camera you have now, if you can't upgrade to something better.
and soak up all the knowledge you can from online sources or people you know...there are tons of awesome free resources you can learn from.

I'll close with one of my favorites from a lovely shoot last night with some sisters..
(first shoot with the new camera! woohoo!)
score thrifty will fiiiinally be hitting the blog tomorrow....taken me longer than I thought, so you all deserve a 'patient-blog-reader-ribbon' or something....perhaps I'll design those in my spare time? :P

happy thursday!
