The clients that first hired me to photograph them last year when I was just starting my business mean a lot to me.
But what means even more to me are the people that believed in me before I ever started my business...or even had my own camera.
Wendy is one of those people.
Two years ago somehow we talked about the idea of doing a shoot with her kids and I could use her camera
(a Canon powershot--aka a fancy point & shoot) :)

We piled in her car on a frigid, windy fall day and I took pictures of her kids with her camera.
Wendy was so excited about the pictures and encouraging to me--
even let me keep her camera for a few days so I could play with it more.
[this was before I bought my canon rebel]
I'll never forget going back to my house after that shoot and putting the pictures on the computer and I was so excited looking through them!
honestly I'm still just as excited after every shoot--I love this whole 'being-a-photographer-thing' :)
[although I admit I cringe looking back at some of those old pictures that I thought were 'so great' back then!]
haha. :)

Their family session has been planned for a long time--since last fall!!
We almost did them then, and then plans changed, and then there were a couple dates this year we had talked about and planned on,
and then other things came up.
and then other things came up.
So when we planned this date in October, of course it would happen to be raining that day. :P
If the rain stopped we were still going to do them--
I had an event to photograph earlier that day, so I went off to do that and hoped/prayed we would be able to fit this in!
I called her afterwards and she said it wasn't raining where they lived, and I told her it wasn't raining here either
[which was where they were coming to do the shoot] so they were going to come!

We were a little bummed because Wendy was wanting some golden hour pictures...but instead we got a warm, overcast today.
The sun peeked out several times while we were shooting, and then would hide as soon as we would get everyone in a pose. :)
I really like the urban feel of these...where I live its mostly brick/barns open areas, so this is about as urban looking as it gets.
I love this beautiful family--so blessed and thankful to call them friends.
Wendy inspires me...love her personality and umm anyone who is a fellow thrift-er like me is automatically fabulous in my book. :)
this was my last session on my "quadruple weekend" back in October [4 shoots in 2 days--sometimes I doubt my own sanity!]
enjoy my [many] favorites..

some of my favorite family shots are where everyone isn't looking--this is one of them:

We had finished the shoot after this picture ^ and I drove away..and then of course the sun came out.
so I came back and they hadn't left yet--so they piled out of the car and we shot a few more frames. :)

Love these! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWow. amazing! love the poses...where do you get your ideas?
ReplyDeleteZoe, I get some posing ideas from pinterest or things that I've learned from other photographers--or sometimes I have ideas in my head--they don't always turn out exactly as I envision but you just learn what works and what doesn't with posing over time--I'm still learning, believe me! :)
DeleteI love the poses you have your subjects do? You have such an amazing talent...WOW
